Research

Our main research focus is on reproductive biology and medicine, particularly female and male fertility in livestock and other domestic animals. We are investigating a variety of basic physiological and also pathological reproductive processes:

  • Recognition and establishment of pregnancy

  • Embryo/gamete – maternal interactions and communication

  • Extracellular vesicles/exosomes-mediated transfer of various molecular cargo as a new mechanism of embryo-maternal communication

  • Identification of common and species-specific molecular mechanisms of endometrial receptivity and fertility

  • Identification of biomarkers for female and male fertility/subfertility

Research approaches:

  • Analysis of temporal and spatial regulation of gene expression in the oviduct and the endometrium by RNA-seq approaches (spatial transcriptomics, low input RNA-seq, small ncRNA-Seq)
  • Investigation of the RNA, protein, and metabolite cargo of extracellular vesicles/exosomes

  • Role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in embryo-maternal communication and embryo development
