Institute of Veterinary Anatomy

Teaching

The macroscopic and microscopic anatomical education within the veterinary medicine curriculum forms the core of teaching at the Institute of Veterinary Anatomy.

In the first-year course, the teaching focuses on the fundamentals of systematic anatomy of the musculoskeletal system, histology, and the macroscopic anatomy of organ systems. The instruction on developmental biology, covering topics such as progenesis, fertilization, embryogenesis, implantation, and placentation, provides the foundation for understanding the origins of life and the embryonic and fetal development of animals, as addressed in the organ-focused blocks.

In the second, third, and fourth-year courses, the fundamentals of the macroscopic anatomy of the musculoskeletal system and organ systems are further explored within the organ blocks by studying the associated supply structures. These topics are supplemented by the corresponding microscopic anatomy and embryology.

Morpho-functional relationships with clinical relevance are consistently emphasized, with a strong focus on the applied aspects of anatomical teaching. This approach aims to build a bridge to clinical education and prepare students comprehensively for practical veterinary training.
